So here I am writing my first blog post for Graham's Orkney Tours. The past few months have been a bit of a whirlwind! Let me try and describe to you this life-changing journey I have embarked on these past few months following my decision to resign as Principal teacher of history and establish instead my very own tour guiding business!
The seed for the big life change was planted last summer. My local athletics club, where I am a volunteer coach, were busy fundraising for our club trip to the Guernsey Islands games ( a mini-olympics for islands). My own fundraising idea? Why don't I channel my knowlege of local history and culture into offering walking tours of Kirkwall..?
Folks, to cut a long story short, the entire experience was just brilliant! Sharing peedie stories about my home town and meeting people from all around the world was such a pleasure and so much fun!
As I was telling a story to a group in front of St Magnus Cathedral one bonny day in July the thought entered my head: 'Graham, you can do this..you could do this full-time..'
The rest as they say, is history..!!
